Why a Working FFL Dealer Built This
Most FFL dealer software gets built by people who have never stood at a gun counter trying to quote a price while a customer waits. FirearmDistributors.com was not. It came out of a working firearms retailer in Kentucky called The Gun Dock, where the founder, Brad Bussell, was losing 15 to 20 minutes on every transaction logging into separate distributor portals just to find out which one had the gun in stock and at what cost. Sometimes the customer left before the lookup finished. That is the problem this platform was built to solve.
A typical day at a small-to-mid-size FFL involves checking RSR Group, Lipsey's, Davidson's, Sports South, Zanders, Bill Hicks, MGE Wholesale, Kinsey's, Iron Valley, Camfour, Chattanooga Shooting Supply, and another half-dozen distributors. Each one wants its own username, password, two-factor flow, and search interface. Each one shows pricing differently. Most do not show real-time stock. Several still gate their EDI feed behind manual sales-rep emails. The result is that a dealer who wants to make a competitive quote ends up either guessing (and losing margin) or making the customer wait (and losing the sale). Neither outcome works.
The original version of this platform was a private internal tool at The Gun Dock. It started as a single screen that pulled in nightly inventory feeds from the five biggest distributors and surfaced the lowest cost per UPC. Within a few weeks it was paying for itself just by catching pricing mistakes the staff would otherwise have missed. After a year of running it in production, it was clear that every FFL dealer in the country had the same problem and almost none of them had a tool that solved it. That is when FirearmDistributors.com was spun out as a separate SaaS product.
What makes this platform different from a generic price-comparison site: it was designed for the actual workflow an FFL dealer follows, not the workflow a venture capitalist imagines. Every feature, from the per-UPC distributor comparison to the price-drop alerts to the saved searches, was built because a real dealer asked for it or because the founder needed it himself. The dealer-side decisions are concrete: which distributor has it cheapest, which one has it in stock, which one ships to my zone fastest, which one accepts my drop-ship request. Those are the questions the platform answers.
The technical underpinnings are intentionally boring. Distributor feeds are ingested on schedules ranging from 15 minutes to daily depending on what the upstream supports. EDI feeds, REST APIs, SFTP drops, and even FTP CSV files all feed into a single normalized inventory index. Pricing layers honor MAP, customer-tier discounts, and dealer-specific overrides where the distributor provides them. The whole stack runs on independent infrastructure with no single-distributor dependency, so an outage at one supplier never takes down the comparison view.
The reason this matters to dealers reading the page right now: every minute saved on a price lookup is a minute you spend with a customer or on a sale. Every dollar caught on a pricing arbitrage between two distributors carrying the same UPC is margin that goes straight to your bottom line.
