Lipsey’s sits in a different category from most firearms distributors. They run dealer-exclusive programs with major manufacturers (Ruger, Smith & Wesson, Glock, Beretta, and others), which means certain models are only available through Lipsey’s. If your shop wants access to the most desirable manufacturer-exclusive runs, a Lipsey’s account is not optional. This guide explains how to apply and how to use the account effectively after approval.

For broader context on Lipsey’s catalog and how their pricing compares to other distributors, see our Lipsey’s distributor page and the distributor exclusives directory.

What Lipsey’s asks for in the application

Lipsey’s dealer application is filled out at their online application form. It’s similar in structure to other major distributors but tends to be slightly more thorough:

  • Active Type 01 (or higher) FFL. Type 03 collector licenses are not accepted.
  • State sales tax / resale certificate.
  • Business license.
  • Trade references. Lipsey’s typically wants two or three references from existing wholesale vendors, especially for newer FFLs.
  • Banking information. Used to verify business legitimacy and process payments.
  • Storefront verification. For brick-and-mortar applicants, Lipsey’s often wants photos or evidence of an active retail presence. Online-only or home-based dealers are sometimes accepted depending on state and history, but the bar is higher than at some other distributors.

How long the review takes

Plan on 1-3 weeks for a clean application, longer in peak buying seasons. Lipsey’s reviews more carefully than some distributors because their dealer-exclusive programs come with manufacturer-driven minimum order commitments.

The dealer-exclusive programs are the real value

Lipsey’s relationship with major manufacturers means a lot of their inventory is unique to them. Examples:

  • Ruger Lipsey’s exclusives. Specific colors, finishes, and configurations of the LCP, LCR, GP-100, and Single-Six. Many of these are only available with a Lipsey’s SKU.
  • Smith & Wesson Lipsey’s exclusives. Custom Performance Center and limited Model 29 / 686 / 686+ configurations.
  • Glock Lipsey’s exclusives. Coyote- and FDE-frame G19, G17, G45 models.
  • Beretta Lipsey’s exclusives. Custom 92FS and 92X variants.

The exclusives are typically pre-sold or run on tight allocation. If you wait to be told that an exclusive exists, you have already missed the window. Watch our distributor-exclusives page and add new releases to your watchlist as soon as Lipsey’s announces them.

How to compete on a Lipsey’s exclusive run

Three things separate dealers who consistently get exclusives from dealers who don’t:

  1. Speed. When Lipsey’s opens orders for a hot exclusive, the available units are often gone in hours, sometimes minutes. Slow ordering loses.
  2. Allocation history. Dealers who have ordered consistently from Lipsey’s are higher in the allocation queue. New accounts get smaller allocations until you build a track record.
  3. Pre-sale infrastructure. Customers will pre-pay for hot exclusives. If you have a clean way to take pre-orders on your storefront or online, you can commit to larger allocations because the units are pre-sold.

What to do if Lipsey’s rejects your application

Reapply once you have built a buying history with two or three other distributors. RSR Group, Sports South, and Davidson’s are typically easier first accounts. Six to twelve months of clean trade history gives Lipsey’s confidence to approve.

Once approved, comparison-shop everything

Lipsey’s is unique on exclusives but not always cheapest on common SKUs. The Ruger 10/22 you can get at Lipsey’s is also at Davidson’s, Zanders, Chattanooga, and elsewhere — with prices that vary week to week.

The dealers who get the most out of a Lipsey’s account are the ones who use Lipsey’s exclusively for exclusives, and use comparison tools to source common SKUs from whichever distributor has the best price on any given week. Start your 14-day free trial and watch the price differences yourself.
